SUMMARY:Safety in the Home: When Is It Unsafe for an Elder to Live Alone?
DESCRIPTION:During this class\, we will talk about clues that confirm an older adult is unsafe in their home\, along with care options for in and outside the home. Because it is often difficult to convince an older adult to leave the home\, we will also explore ways to make that discussion easier and more effective. \nThe class will be led by Karen Kent\, a licensed mental health counselor with 30 years of experience in the field of geriatric mental health. She teaches classes for family caregivers and has led caregiver support groups. She recently spent eight months as the primary caregiver for a family member. \nThis event is part of our Aging in Place program\, which encourages active older adults to engage in intrinsically meaningful activities; supports adult children of aging parents; and\, enables those older adults challenged by disability\, illness or declining health to live in comfort and dignity. \nThis event is free; donations are welcome. \nRSVP to Talya Gillman\, Education Coordinator\, at (206) 861-8784 by Wednesday\, May 3.

You will discover what it takes to start your operation and explore the potential of your idea. \nFor some people\, starting a business can be a great way to bring in extra cash or to make a living doing something you enjoy. Many don’t realize how easy it can be to learn the basics of starting and operating a small business. \nTopics covered:\n\nHow to decide if a business idea will work\nHow to get the word out and attract customers\nFiguring out how much money you’ll need to start it\, and to keep it going from one month to the next\nThe steps for registering your business with the state\nLearning how you can best use your valuable time and resources\nTell a clear and compelling story when people ask\, “What do you do?”\n\nWho is this for?\nBusiness Foundations I is for people with limited time and money\, and great ideas. No prior business experience or education is necessary\, and the class is designed to help you determine if you’re ready to start a business. \nTimes: The course consists of six three-hour sessions. Class is held on Thursdays 5-8pm on the following dates. \n\nMay 4\nMay 11\nMay 18\nMay 25\nJune 1\nJune 8\n\n*Partial scholarships are available to low-income individuals with proper documentation. Applications must be received one week before the start of class to be considered. Registration is not complete without payment.
