DESCRIPTION:Make your impact on Martin Luther King Day and give back to the forests of Tukwila! Dig in with the Green Tukwila Partnership at one of two events happening on January 15th as an effort to benefit the health of Tukwila’s forests. Get your hands dirty by helping to remove invasive weeds from the city’s forests and shorelines. This is a great way to give back to your local community\, to meet some new faces and\, to spend the morning doing something good outside! \nRestoration training\, tools and gloves will also be provided. DESCRIPTION:Seattle University Student Center\, Room 160\nAre you concerned about the dramatic increase in hatred and discrimination in the US? \nAre you interested in learning more about Islamophobia and Antisemitism? \nDo you want to use the power of your voice to say that bigotry and discrimination have no place in our communities? \nDo you want to meet other youth from all over the Puget Sound region who are inspired to work for change in their communities and nation? \nIf so\, join us for a Youth Advocacy Workshop! \nThe event is open to youth of all (or no) faith backgrounds in 6th-12th grade and is organized by Kids4Peace. Presenters include the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Washington State)\, Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle\, 21 Progress\, The Seattle Globalist\, Essam Muhammad\, and Northwest Film Forum. \nThis four-hour workshop will empower youth with the tools to speak out publicly against Islamophobia and Antisemitism\, while also building relationships between diverse communities: \nHour 1. Introductions; sharing of concerns about the current climate in the US; background on Islamophobia and Antisemitism in the US; the importance of speaking up and telling our stories \nHour 2 & 3. Breakout sessions designed to equip you with specific tools for speaking out: Film\, Spoken Word\, News Media\, Bystander Intervention\, and Talking About The Issues You Care About \nHour 4. Come join the Morse Force in trail monitoring and maintenance! We will be working on the prairie\, oak and Douglas fir habitat trails as well as the boardwalk\, creek and forested wetlands trails. All ages and abilities are welcome\, and no experience is necessary.
