SUMMARY:Safety in the Home: When Is It Unsafe for an Elder to Live Alone?
DESCRIPTION:During this class\, we will talk about clues that confirm an older adult is unsafe in their home\, along with care options for in and outside the home. Because it is often difficult to convince an older adult to leave the home\, we will also explore ways to make that discussion easier and more effective. \nThe class will be led by Karen Kent\, a licensed mental health counselor with 30 years of experience in the field of geriatric mental health. She teaches classes for family caregivers and has led caregiver support groups. She recently spent eight months as the primary caregiver for a family member. \nThis event is part of our Aging in Place program\, which encourages active older adults to engage in intrinsically meaningful activities; supports adult children of aging parents; and\, enables those older adults challenged by disability\, illness or declining health to live in comfort and dignity. \nThis event is free; donations are welcome. \nRSVP to Talya Gillman\, Education Coordinator\, at (206) 861-8784 by Wednesday\, May 3.
