Are you concerned about the dramatic increase in hatred and discrimination in the US?
Are you interested in learning more about Islamophobia and Antisemitism?
Do you want to use the power of your voice to say that bigotry and discrimination have no place in our communities?
Do you want to meet other youth from all over the Puget Sound region who are inspired to work for change in their communities and nation?
If so, join us for a Youth Advocacy Workshop!
The event is open to youth of all (or no) faith backgrounds in 6th-12th grade and is organized by Kids4Peace. Presenters include the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Washington State), Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, 21 Progress, The Seattle Globalist, Essam Muhammad, and Northwest Film Forum.
This four-hour workshop will empower youth with the tools to speak out publicly against Islamophobia and Antisemitism, while also building relationships between diverse communities:
Hour 1. Introductions; sharing of concerns about the current climate in the US; background on Islamophobia and Antisemitism in the US; the importance of speaking up and telling our stories
Hour 2 & 3. Breakout sessions designed to equip you with specific tools for speaking out: Film, Spoken Word, News Media, Bystander Intervention, and Talking About The Issues You Care About
Hour 4. Sharing about breakout session experiences; committing to taking action in our community
Transportation to and from the event is available. Please indicate your interest when you register through the Eventbrite link above.
